Pink clover flowers on a green field.

Oh, the terrific time of menopause! Does this have to be sexy, psychological and a somewhat insane time of life to get a middle-aged female? Being middle-aged is bad enough, suddenly all of the joys of our childhood have vanished. Wrinkles begin to sprout on the once firm skin, parts start to sag in odd places and suddenly you’re aware of the global warming everybody is talking about. Only global warming isn’t happening in the atmosphere it’s happening right where you’re, on your very space!

Co dělat?

So to answer the question does it need to be sexy, psychological and crazy, well, yes, kind of, but with a little bit of understanding, you can endure this passing part of you life, you are able to slide right through it and wind up a much better woman for the encounter.

Oh sure, you say, but have you gone ? The answer to this question is yes, it’s over and I’m still smiling, still married and anticipating the next thirty or so productive years ahead of me. How did I do it without committing murder, turning into a witch or jumping off the nearest bridge?

Perseverance mostly, I decided that I wasn’t going to let something that’s a natural process of becoming a mature female get the better of me. Was it easy? Of course not! Actually at times it was downright annoying, bothersome, and dad blasted hot.

Příznaky

The hot flashes, flushes or anything you decide to call them were quite bothersome and embarrassing. Especially if you’ve got two teenage daughters that enjoyed seeing you suffer. They loved seeing the car windows on a cool morning steam up on my side of the vehicle when a hot flash was in process. And I won’t even go in the number of hours spent readjusting the mattress covers on my side of the mattress when trying to get a great night’s sleep.

I can’t even start to tell you how many advertisements I saw which made me cry for no reason whatsoever. Or the fact that one kind word would toss me into a fit of joyful tears, but one wrong word would turn me to the wicked witch of the north. Oh! Those were such interesting times.

So, you see it wasn’t all happy occasions and enjoyable games, it actually was a time of learning and dealing with a situation I actually had no actual control over.

It takes time!

How did I do it and still keep my family’s life more or less in tact, together with my own wellbeing? To start with, by taking deep breaths and understanding that this wasn’t forever! Realizing that this was an active part of growing up, yes, even middle-aged females have a opportunity to grow up and decide what they will be, when they really do grow up.

The “change of life” or “the rite of passage,” as some choose to call it, is an indication of growth. We leave behind these parts of us that defined us as “younger women” and we take the time to realize we really are powerful, filled with self worth are growing wiser with each passing day.

The lives the majority of us live as grandparents, mom, working women and housewives is so hectic, we rarely take time to think of a moment for ourselves. In the scheme of a hectic day using some personal time for a standard morning constitutional is deemed privileged time and a lot people consider ourselves lucky if we have this.

So how are we supposed to confront this specific period of our lives when our bodies appear to be going haywire and the turbulence we believe going on inside, produces a panic we’re not certain how to take care of.

It’s stated that about 15 percent of us slide through this period of change with no issues whatsoever, but the rest of us suffer the mood swings, hot flashes, weight gain, insomnia, crying along with other modifications.

Many of our physicians recommend Hormone Replacement Therapy; estrogen is the most frequently prescribed medication in pill form. This treatment isn’t risk free and should be considered only with a whole lot of thought, research and discussion on your part. Personally, I traveled through my shift experience by confronting each day’s challenges and chasing forward without the support of medication.

Each individual must think for herself, since there are other options you may follow. For me, the understanding of a potential risk of endometrial cancer, gallbladder disease, and blood clots which can result in a stroke, heart attack or pulmonary embolus was enough to keep me away from HRT. I am not advocating anyone follow my way of thinking, since it’s vital that you listen to your body.

I have a doctrine that serves me well and I’ll give it to you, to utilize discretion naturally. I know my body better than anyone else, including my physician and I listen to what it tells me. By listening to what it’s telling me, I have instinctively managed to remain very healthy and drug free.

One of the chief concerns when moving through this thing called the shift is Osteoporosis. As we age, our bone density become thinner and more fragile.

Why? Mostly do to genetics, lifestyle, diet and our overall wellbeing. Exercise is one of the most important things we can do to help our bodies, not just concerning weight reduction, but also in warding off osteoporosis. Walking and other weight bearing exercises will work wonders for your bones and to your mood. Activity during your menopause years can help you manage your mood swings, I’m not suggesting strenuous exercise, but things in moderation, only a walk around the block and taking a couple of minutes for yourself will work wonders for your mood.

Zkuste to!

Yoga is very good for those so inclined, acupuncture has helped many decrease hot flashes, quitting smoking has helped some and cutting back on alcohol has helped others.

However I think the best thing you can do to help yourself is taking time to nourish yourself. I read a quote once that said,”Menopause is a metamorphosis, like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. The caterpillar requires a cocoon and so do you.”

During this time of expansion, you owe it to yourself to enter your cocoon, your cave, or a unique place and close yourself in. The kids have grown, you’ve spent your entire life nourishing your household’s growth, caring for the needs and wants and it’s now time to reverse the function and also to look after you.

Using this method you’ll be benefiting yourself, your loved ones, and perhaps even your job. It’s during this time of expansion that our skills and our senses are heightened and we become more receptive to internal guidance, inspiration and illumination. But just, if we give ourselves time to be free of obligation, if only for a brief hour, we owe it to ourselves as well as the person we’re growing into.
