Most men and women see accidents as just that – accidents. But in a study of 164 handicap patients, 25 percent who endured a work-related injury had decreased anxiety levels following the accident (according to the Holmes-Rahe scale). This occurred because the injury had removed them from the stress of their jobs. It was then theorized that the injuries might have been a misguided coping effort to relieve stress. If this is correct, it elevates the importance of decreasing work-related stress before accidents happen.

Studied show that half of employees surveyed believe workplace stress is a significant issue. The survey also finds that 40 percent of employees think that their jobs will suffer if their companies hear they’re stressed at work. One in four employees revealed that they know of a colleague whose mental health and livelihood has endured because of stress at work.

Estrés laboral

Over half of workers feel that their employer doesn’t fully understand the extent of workplace stress, and doesn’t have adequate procedures in place to handle stress-related issues. A majority said that there was a demand for different organizations to work with companies to offer specialist support.

It should be our goal at the end of the day to say,”Good day, fine, got it done, no anxiety.” But this is extremely tricky to attain. Job stress comes in many forms:

· Too much work
· Conflicts with co-workers
· Difficulties with your boss
· Boring work
· Irate customers
· Too many duties

· Productivity and efficiency at work?
· My closest colleagues and my company as a whole?
· Communicating necessary information to other professionals?
· Change, in relation to position, schedule, or otherwise?
· Finding purpose and meaning in my job?
· Refueling my energy: physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually?

1. Avoid commuter issues – If you’ve got a two-hour drive to work every day, you probably are already worried when you arrive in the workplace. Most men and women feel driving is a waste of time, and in a society where we envision our activities by the hour, the time wasted getting from point A to point B can make us stressed and frustrated, especially if we are fighting heavy traffic.

4. Talk with your boss – Keeping open lines of communication will provide you both a clearer comprehension of what is expected of each of you. Discuss:

· Job performance and if you’re fulfilling the expectations of the firm.
· Areas you may want to improve on.
· Raises and incentives.
· The future of the business and how you fit into long-term plans.
· Lightening your work load if you believe you’re taking on too much.
· Other job opportunities for you inside the corporation.

5. Turn it off – Cell phones, PDAs, and computers: yuck! What happened to the eight-hour workday? These modern marvels that, when introduced, proclaimed they would make our lives more efficient and give us more free time have done just the opposite and tied us to our tasks twenty-four hours each day. Here are some examples on the best way best to cut the ties.

· Cell phone – the world will not finish: turn it off.
· PDA – the world will not finish: turn it off.
· Computer – the world will not finish: turn it off.

Or maybe it’s time to change Job?

If you can’t solve your stress problem at work – if you’re really miserable – it could be time to consider changing jobs. Is there a job that you would be happier doing?

Don’t quit your job as you’re seeking different employment. Keep your current job until you are positive that you get a new one established. There might be more anxiety being unemployed than there was in the job that you abruptly quit.
