Stretch marks are scars that are generated on the skin mostly as a result of pregnancy and childbirth. These exist as lighter lines of skin, with a whitish colour. Though stretch marks are usually related to pregnancy and childbirth, it’s not actually correct.
These may also occur because of obesity, excessive physical labour between a specific part of the epidermis, stimulation, pubertal changes, dieting, etc.. Stretch marks are called as striae distensae medically. However bad they may seem, stretch marks are always a cosmetic issue and they don’t have any consequences on the health of the individual.
A substantial portion of the joy of childbirth is marred when the woman finds out that the pregnancy has caused several disagreeable changes within the body. Stretch marks are among the topmost of pregnancy-related issues. These put a major dampener on the self-confidence of girls. In actuality, some women may opt not to give birth to a kid merely to prevent the disfiguring altering that pregnancy brings on.

When pregnant, women must care for their skin. For this, their diet must contain adequate amount of vitamin E. Vitamin E is found in several oils like olive oil, sunflower oil, wheat germ oil, walnut oil in foods such as carrots, tomatoes, hazelnut, soybeans, pollards, corn, asparagus and oatmeal. In actuality, oatmeal is traditionally prescribed to women to eliminate their stretch marks.
The diet must also contain good amounts of vitamin C, which is vital in keeping the water content of the human body. This may be obtained from fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables, which must be obtained in a minimum cooked form.
Sour and pungent foods must be avoided. Similarly, saturated fats have to be avoided in surplus, since they can cause excessive stretching of the skin, and also cause obesity. Eating seeds and nuts which are rich in vitamin content, particularly zinc is great for firming the skin during pregnancy.
The water content of skin must be kept high to be able to keep its suppleness. When pregnant, the girl must drink at least six to eight glasses of water a day.
- Apply a cream that’s full of content on the area where stretch marks are prone to occur. This will avoid the stretch marks from appearing in the future. Even if the stretch marks persist later, you may apply vitamin E containing creams on the region for removing them.
- Cocoa butter is highly acclaimed for preventing pregnancy stretch marks. This butter has to be applied on the skin each night when you’re pregnant. Cocoa butter has more advantages if it’s applied directly after a warm shower since it opens up the pores of the skin and helps it to permeate much better.
- You can use vitamin E oil like olive oil or castor oil and rub it on the stomach every night. Use some aromatic herbs such as mint, lemon grass, lavender, thyme, etc., make a paste of them with the oil and apply them on the belly for greater effects. The massage has to be performed for about twenty minutes each night when retiring to bed. Even if this is done after the birth, it aids the stretch marks to deteriorate after a couple weeks.
