It’s the middle of the night. You awake to the sudden jolt of electrical pain that begins in the base of your enamel and shoots throughout your whole jaw. You’re in immediate need of toothache pain relief, but the dentist’s office is shut. It throbs. It’s excruciating and debilitating. You’re desperate for a remedy that will make your toothache pain vanish, even just briefly so that you can return to sleep. Is there a natural toothache home remedy that may help you?

Natural toothache solutions

It never fails that toothache pain hits at the worst, most inconvenient moment. Although locating the origin of the problem might require the support of an experienced dentist, there are numerous home remedies you can try that may help provide toothache pain relief briefly as you hunt for a more permanent solution. Here are three such remedies.

Salt Water

This remedy is often recommended after teeth are pulled, but may be equally effective to fight a toothache. Take a large spoonful of salt and mix it thoroughly with a glass of warm water. Then take the mixture and use it like a mouthwash. Swish it around inside your mouth for as long as you can stand the taste or until your jaw muscles become sore. Then, spit out the mix and repeat the procedure a few times. You should feel that your toothache pain subside.

Cloves and/or Clove Oil

Cloves and clove oil are common cures for toothache for centuries. To remove your tooth pain, consider resting a spoonful from the tender area or substitute with a few drops of clove oil around the tooth. As alternatives, you can combine ground tsp with water or olive oil and attempt to use the solution as a paste. This method will usually lessen the pain considerably, but like most home remedies for a toothache, the results are usually only temporary.

Don’t get all excited just yet. This doesn’t mean that you have to go to the pub and get plastered tonight. But if you have some whiskey, brandy, vodka, or other alcohol sitting around the house, then you might be able to temporarily alleviate the pain by swishing it around in your mouth and then spitting it out. Repeat as necessary until the pain becomes bearable. You could even substitute with a solid, alcohol-containing mouth wash if needed.

Remember there are a number of ways to relieve a toothache, but very few ways to heal them. If a toothache hits you unexpectedly, try a natural home remedy to decrease the pain. If this doesn’t work, it’s time for another solution.
