Dioon (Gum) Palm Tree – Dioon spinulosum Giant Dioon is a cycad of pre-historical source, and the Dioon palm tree can grow up to 1 1/2 ft. in diameter with a Dioon trunk rising twelve feet tall. The glowing waxy-green leaves of the Dioon are feather-like and pointed out on the hints. The giant Dioon palm tree is a favourite container plant and will withstand temperatures of 25 degrees F., with no substantial impact or foliage change.

Hardly any palm trees have the advantage of large indoor climbing as does the Lady Palm tree, Rhapsis excelsa.

Ponytail Palm Trees

Queen palm trees grow quickly and provide rapid growing for colour and the tropical look. Zamia (Coontie) palm trees flourish as external plants, Zones 9-11, also as containerized palm trees for that tropical look. Clumps of Zamia pumila can quickly divide to form actual plants or the seeds can be planted to develop new Zamia (Coontie) palm trees which are fast growing.

Zamia furfuracea The cardboard palm tree is a clumping cycad that grows 3 feet tall in tight clusters that often reach a diameter of 6 feet. The fleshy base is filled with water, giving drought protection. The cardboard palm tree, Zamia furfuracea, can be planted out where temperatures don’t go below freezing, and is particularly popular to use as bedding plants in hotels. As a container plant, the cardboard palm tree grows well as specimen or accent plants.
