Our lips are susceptible to damage from several components such as changes in the humidity and temperature, in addition to seasonal changes. This can lead to dry and chapped lips which could cause much distress and pain. Fortunately, there are lots of methods one can use to heal chapped lips.

Natural lip balm

Using a natural lip balm is a excellent way to heal dry, damaged, and chapped lips. Organic lip balms can contain such ingredients as cocoa butter, beeswax, jojoba oil, sunflower oil, candelilla wax, a natural taste such as lemon balm, Vitamin E, organic tea tree oil, camphor, calendula, Vitamin A, rosemary extract, L-lysine, and much more.

Organic means they don’t contain harmful additives and chemicals. Products which include the USDA Organic Seal are certified organic. Organic balm soothes, moisturizers, hydrates, cools, and heals chapped skin. It’s important to avoid too much use of manufactured skin products, such as mass produced manufactured cosmetics and flavored lip balms.

Healthy food

It’s important to eat foods that are high in minerals and vitamins. Flax seed oil, magnesium and calcium are important nutrients to maintaining the lips healthy. Healthy foods include almonds, milk, legumes, nuts, whole grains, yogurt, cheese, beans, cereal high in flax seed oil, and poultry.

Natural Supplements

Take a multivitamin supplement. Lack of B vitamins can be a cause of chapped lips. Also, if you have vitamin E capsules poke a small hole in a capsule and apply the oil to your lips.

Hydration

Drink loads of water daily. Experts recommend drinking 8 glasses of water every day. Drinking warm drinks helps to add moisture to the lips and boost circulation.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine that causes skin dehydration.

Do This!

      • Apply a lip balm before going to bed. This will heal, nourish, and moisturize your lips while you sleep.
      • If the indoor air is very dry, use a humidifier to add moisture to the atmosphere.
      • Wear a lip balm when you’re outdoors. Use a lip balm which has a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or more before you expose your lips into sunlight. Don’t wear lip balms that contain phenol or camphor since they’re strong antiseptics that may irritate skin and cause redness.
      • When you’re using a hot shower, use a washcloth and a little bit of sugar to gently pat your lips. This helps remove dead skin and smooth the surface of the skin. After you leave the shower, apply a lip balm

Dry, chapped, and sore lips aren’t only painful, but aren’t too attractive. By implementing a wholesome diet with an excellent lip balm in your daily skincare regimen, you can heal your lips and keep them smooth, soft, and supple. Although healing chapped lips is a frequent problem for many people, it’s a problem which can be cured.
