Among the biggest problems that aspiring home gardeners face now is not having enough land to grow on. Fortunately, there are lots of types of vegetables which you can grow with no yard or land plot in any respect. Even if you just have a small balcony or terrace, you can still grow your own vegetables in your home. Just be certain to always pick a container that’s at least 12 inches in diameter and contains at least one drainage hole in the bottom, and use a high-quality organic potting soil mix. Here are 10 kinds of vegetables which you may grow in containers.
Squash- Zucchini
It grows quite well in containers, as do other tiny kinds of squash such as Bush Acorn. If you would like to grow other kinds of squash, such as butternut, search for varieties that are marked “compact,” or “space saver” Select a container that’s at least 18 inches deep.
Green Peppers
Green pepper plants, in addition to other pepper varieties, grow well in containers and are appealing plants, also. Once you’ve sown your green pepper seeds, put the pot in a location where it will receive at least 6 hours of sunshine each day. Green peppers also love a dose of fertilizer when the plant has reached 6 inches in height.
Green Beans
Select a pole bean variety to produce a high yield in a container. Sow your seeds about 5 inches apart in moist soil. Don’t forget to put a stake within the pot, because the bean vines will need something to hold onto.
Beets
Just about any sort of beets will grow well in containers. Select pots which are at least 3 gallons in size, and be careful not to sow your seeds too close together. Once you’ve sown your seeds, put the container in a shady spot. Since beets are cool weather veggies, they don’t have to be kept very hot.
Spinac
Spinach has a long taproot, so pick a container that’s at least 12 inches deep. Spinach also likes cool weather and will bolt when it becomes too hot, so keep your container in a cool but sunny place.
Leaf Lettuce
Leaf lettuce, like the Butter or Bibb variety, grows to a width of about 8 inches, and has a root which grows to about this thickness also. You can plant more than 1 lettuce in any 1 container- just be certain that you leave enough room. Plant seeds under just about 1/4 an inch of dirt.
Eggplant
Pick a small assortment of eggplant, such as Slim Jim or Bambino, and it’ll grow quite well in a container. Eggplants like moisture, so be sure you water them every day, and maintain them at about 72 degrees Fahrenheit. It takes about 3 weeks for an eggplant to go from seed to harvest.
Herbs
Herbs are among the greatest things to grow indoors in a pot. Among the easiest herbs to grow will be chives. Thyme, rosemary, basil, and lemongrass are also great options for indoor herb container gardens.
Radishes
Radishes are among the easiest vegetables to grow. They mature in no more than three weeks. When you plant your radish seeds, start with a layer of moist compost. Sprinkle the radish seeds evenly over the compost, then put in a dry layer of compost on top. Place your container in a mainly sunny (but it can be partly shaded) spot. Your radish seeds should germinate in about 5 days.
Cucumbers
Small types of cucumbers, such as Spacemaster or Salad Bush cucumbers, grow well in pots. Plant 6-8 seeds together in a tiny cluster, then cover them with about a half inch of soil. Keep their dirt nice and moist, and put a trellis or stake behind the pot for the cucumber vines to climb on. Cucumbers love warmth, so when you plant themkeep the pot in a steady temperature of 70 degrees to permit the seeds to germinate.
